We were holed up in a new attic again last night. The sad thing about being a diurnal mortal on the run from immortal nocturnal beasts is that during the day when you could be resting peacefully you have to be preparing fortifications for the dark to come, and at night, when you need to be utterly silent and still, you can't go to sleep because if they do come it will go very poorly for you. The best that can happen at that point is that you just won't wake up.

Today as I walked around I saw some evidence that they've been systematically searching houses, block by block, in their tireless search for blood. This scares me because it means they're getting smarter and more organized. I keep wondering if we should sneak across and hole up somewhere they've already been but I'm not sure that's safe. In some ways I guess I'm afraid that if we somehow make it and don't need to run constantly we'll forget how to run and that there is indeed something from which to run. Constant movement may be tiring but at least I'm alive. And I guess if I get too tired, there's always the option of ceasing to bother.
